Most of what's written about Lake Lure assumes you're coming in summer. If you're visiting from October through spring, a few things are closed and a few things matter more than they do in July.
What's Seasonal
The beach. Lake Lure Beach's 2026 season ended on Labor Day — September 7, 2026. Expect it back around Memorial Day weekend 2027, based on previous years, but the Town hasn't announced 2027 dates, so treat that as an expectation rather than a promise. Our beach guide has the details.
Boat rentals. One operator describes its schedule this way: Memorial Day–Labor Day; off season September–April, call to reserve. Others may differ, so call before you build a day around the water. See the boat rental directory for the operators we track.
What Doesn't Depend on the Season
- The Flowering Bridge gardens are Open free, 24 hours a day, year-round. See our gardens tip.
- Chimney Rock State Park keeps running, on a different clock. The fall and winter schedule covers November 2 – December 31, and early-year hours are not published at all. Read our guide to the three sets of hours before you plan around it.
- Rock climbing. The free Rumbling Bald climbing area has its popular season in fall and winter, since the south-facing rock gets hot in summer. See the first-timer tip.
- Apple orchards are a fall draw. See our tip on the orchards along Chimney Rock Road.
