Pontoon Rental on Lake Lure: Five Questions Worth Asking Before You Book

The headline rate for a pontoon rental on Lake Lure is easy to compare. The things around that rate are not, and they decide what you actually pay and how much flexibility you have if the weather turns.

Our boat rental directory tracks current rates and terms by operator. This page is about which questions to ask, based on where those operators actually differ.

1. Is Fuel Included?

Some operators include fuel in the daily rate. One tracked operator includes it and adds a cooler with some rentals, according to its owners; another includes fuel on daily rentals but meters it on longer ones. The difference matters more on a big, thirsty boat on a long day.

2. What's the Minimum?

Larger boats can carry a minimum rental time, so a short cruise may not be an option on the biggest pontoon. If you only want an hour, ask about it directly.

3. What's the Cancellation Policy, Including for Weather?

This is where operators vary most. One lists free changes or cancellation well ahead of the start time, then charges a share of the reservation for later cancellations, but says it doesn't charge when you skip a rental because of lightning, hail, or heavy rain. Another lists a small cancellation fee, a free first reschedule, and escalating charges closer to the date, with no refund for a no-show.

Mountain weather can turn quickly, so this is the question most worth asking.

4. Who Can Rent, and What's the Deposit?

Age rules exist. One operator says renters must be 25 or older. Deposits and damage terms vary, and for several operators we haven't confirmed them. Ask what a card hold looks like and when it clears.

5. What Gets Added on Top?

Rates are often quoted before tax, and some operators add a card-processing fee or a holiday surcharge. Holiday weeks and weekends can be excluded from posted rates altogether.

One More Option

Peer-to-peer listings exist too. Our directory links to a marketplace where individual owners list boats, which can start at lower hourly rates but runs under the marketplace's own terms rather than an operator's, so read those before you book.

It depends on the operator and the rental length. Some include fuel in the daily rate, and at least one meters fuel on multi-day rentals. Ask before you book.
What happens if it storms on the day of my rental?
Policies differ. One operator says it doesn't charge for a rental skipped because of lightning, hail, or heavy rain, while others set cancellation windows and fees. Read the terms before you pay.
