Bringing a Dog to Chimney Rock: Trails Yes, Elevator No

Chimney Rock is more dog-friendly than many ticketed attractions, with one rule that reshapes the whole visit.
The Two Rules
On the trails: Permitted on all trails on a leash no longer than 6 feet.
In the elevator: Not permitted in the elevator or Sky Lounge (service animals excepted).

What That Means for Your Day
The elevator is the easiest way to the summit, and it's off the table with a dog. That doesn't close off the views, since the trails are open to leashed dogs, but it does mean you should choose your route deliberately rather than deciding at the elevator doors.
A few practical consequences:
- Pick the trail first, then the schedule. The Hickory Nut Falls Trail and the longer Skyline hike are both trails, so both work with a dog on a leash. Our clock guide covers when each one closes.
- Split the group only if you have to. If some of your party wants the elevator, someone has to stay with the dog, since neither can go through the elevator or into the Sky Lounge. Settle that before you reach the ticket plaza.
- Keep the leash short. The limit is a leash no longer than six feet, and on narrow trails with other hikers, a shorter hold is easier anyway.
